Mr Clown and the Seven Deadly Sins: Gluttony
Gluttony [gluht-n-ee] –noun
1.) overindulging in eating or drinking
2.) to eat or drink in excess.
While everyone has to eat to live, people should be disciplined enough to eat only in amounts sufficient to remain healthy and fit. Overindulging in food should only occur once in a while, as a special treat or for celebration. Eating too much can lead to indigestion in the short term and in the long term it can lead to obesity, diabetes, and other serious health problems. Of all the horrors facing the children of Green River, childhood obesity is the most alarming. For the past ten years childhood obesity has risen nearly sixty percent! That’s even higher than the fifty-five percent increase in Mr. Clown related punishment deaths! And of all the children in Green River, Dougie McKendrick is the fattest boy. Every week he uses all of his allowance to buy junk food from places like the Burger Hutt, Tennessee Fried Chicken, Taco Shack, and Gemini Pizza. He also buys cupcakes and cake from the Green River Sweet Treat Bakery. And lasagna from the Green River Grocery-Mart, along with cookies, chips, and soda. Then he rushes home and eats everything he possibly can before Mr. and Mrs. McKendrick get home from work. Sometimes he is so gluttonous that it makes him sick and he lies on his back waiting for his belly to stop hurting. And then when his mom tells him dinner is ready, he still goes down and eats even more! For the last few months, Mr. Clown has been keeping an eye on Dougie, hoping he will realize his continued gluttony is going to hurt him in the long run. But, Dougie just hasn’t realized the dangerous road he’s going down. So, Mr. Clown has vowed that Dougie will not be just another childhood obesity statistic. No, not Dougie. Mr. Clown is going to save him from that particular fate.

Mr Clown and the Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath
Wrath [rahth] –noun
1.) Intense fierce anger; forceful indignation.
2.) vengeance as a result of anger.
When someone teases you or makes fun of you, it is quite normal to feel a little angry and hurt about this. In fact, if you’re being teased, it’s perfectly OK to stand up for yourself and say, “That’s not OK. Stop teasing me!” However, it’s not OK to throw a temper tantrum—smashing things and giving over entirely to wrath. This is the case with Tammy Walker who often receives a little good-natured ribbing from her brothers Bryan and Scotty. She completely loses her cool and totally flips out—every time. And when Tammy’s wrath takes over, she starts throwing things and has been known to grab a baseball bat and chase her little brothers around. Once she even used that baseball bat to put a huge hole through the wall of the living room. That’s not OK, Tammy! In fact, that’s pretty much as far from OK as you can get. While on the one hand, you would think Bryan and Scotty would stop teasing their sister—the fact is they are still young and don’t realize that they are playing with a powder keg of pure unbridled wrath. Many times Mrs. Walker has told Tammy she needs to control of her angry outbursts and stop throwing stuff and breaking vases and other pieces of furniture and prized knick-knacks. But, Tammy just isn’t getting the point. So over the past few months, Mr. Clown has been keeping an eye on Tammy, noting that her wrath just keeps growing and growing. It’s become very clear that he is going to have to intervene… and teach Tammy that it’s not acceptable to let wrath take over and chase your little brothers around with a baseball bat.

Mr Clown and the Seven Deadly Sins: Envy
Envy [en-vee] –noun
1.) An extreme feeling of discontent or covetousness of another’s advantages, success, possessions, or relationships.
While it’s true that aspiring to attain certain goals or achieve certain things can make a person a better person, it’s also true that being envious of what another has can be very detrimental to a person’s well-being. Preston Sinclaire looks at Tyler Tucker every morning first thing when he gets to school and his eyes are full of envy and his cheeks flush a very unsightly green hue. Every day Preston thinks, “Why can’t I have everything that Tyler has?” Tyler is the star of the Green River Elementary football team, and the basketball team, and the wrestling team, and the volleyball team. He is popular with all the other children. And, he is dating Mitzie O’Reilly. Preston Sinclaire has had a crush on 5th grader Mitzie O’Reilly all school year. Even though he is only a 3rd grader, he has secretly hoped that perhaps one day Mitzie would look at him and see him as something more than a nine year old. He has held that hope for so long now, even though Mitzie has been Tyler’s girlfriend all year. When Preston helped Mitzie hang up the posters for the Read campaign featuring reality TV stars of The Mountains Honey and Stanton all she could do was talk about how awesome Tyler was. And, Preston could just feel his face turning that awful green color, but he just didn’t care. His envy has just been growing and growing. And all the while Mr. Clown has been watching and waiting, hoping that Preston would get his envy under control. Alas, it’s not looking as though that would be the case… and Mr. Clown is going to have to intervene… and we know what that means boys and girls? Don’t we?
